Nursing in Crisis

I have seen the beauty of nursing,
But I promise you – this is not it.

The care,
The tenderness,
The patience –
This is not it.

Where is the compassion?
Where is the love?
Where is the personal connection?

Patient care – now.
Rushed,
Patched up quickly,
Processed like numbers –
This is not it.

Too few hands,
Too little time,
Too exhausted –
This is not it.

I have seen the beauty of nursing,
But now,
I see the crisis.

And the system,
Still,
Does not hear us –
This is not it.
