Pawns and Heroes
The world plays its games-
Strategy for you,
Life and death for them.
Bound by duty,
Voices muted,
Property of the country.
Pawns to you,
Everything to us.
They are not pieces on a board-
They are flesh and bone,
Dreams and futures
Carried beneath their armor.
Their lives paraded,
Unable to argue,
Unable to protest,
Still they march.
But we, who have served,
Say this from the heart:
Show respect-
To those who wear the uniform.
Treat them with the same dignity
They give to you.
They are warriors with hearts,
With feelings, with families.
Disposable to you,
Irreplaceable to us.
