The Veterans We Forgot About
You forgot about their courage –
The courage many lack.
When we needed help,
They came to our aid.
Now,
When they need us,
When they ask for help,
You turn your back.
Left to drown their sorrows,
Face their fears alone,
Fight their demons without care.
Have you forgotten how you celebrated them
In their prime?
Now, exhausted and broken,
Haunted by nightmares and invisible battles,
Left abandoned and forgotten.
Why the cold heart?
Why the disregard?
Have you forgotten their dedication?
Their loyalty?
Their honor?
Their willingness to protect us,
Defend us,
Die for us?
Have you forgotten their sacrifice?
