The Injury You Couldn’t See

A Living Nightmare

Dragging my assault like a ball and chain,
Crawling through a dream,
Fighting to stay awake.

Head pounding,
Swelling like a balloon ready to burst.

Memory clouded,
Responses slowed.

Bones stretched with ache,
Pins sparking –
Tiny lightning bolts beneath my skin.

Blinding lights,
Blurred vision.

This was the invisible injury
The public could not see –

A living nightmare
That changed my life.
